Child Dental Benefit Schedule

Child Dental Benefit Schedule

For Australian families with children aged 2-17, the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) offers a valuable program to support children’s dental care. Explore the CDBS to understand its benefits, eligibility requirements, and how to access this program for your child’s oral health.

What is the CDBS?

The CDBS is a national, means-tested program funded by the Australian Government. It provides eligible children with a capped benefit to cover the costs of basic dental services, promoting preventative care and good oral health habits from a young age.

Advantage

  • Financial Assistance: The CDBS helps families manage the costs of dental care for their children, making essential dental services more accessible.
  • Improved Oral Health: Regular dental check-ups, cleanings, and treatments supported by the CDBS can prevent dental problems and ensure healthy teeth for your child.
  • Early Detection and Treatment: The CDBS encourages preventative care, allowing for early detection of potential dental issues and addressing them before they become more serious and costly.
  • Pain-Free Smiles: Regular dental care promotes good oral health, minimizing the risk of cavities and pain associated with dental problems.
  • Building Confidence: A healthy smile can boost a child’s confidence and self-esteem.

Eligibility & Time Frame

To be eligible for the CDBS, your child must meet all the following criteria:

  • Age between 2 and 17 years old for at least one day in a calendar year.
  • Entitled to Medicare.
  • Must be the child (or a dependant) of someone who receives a relevant Australian Government payment, such as Family Tax Benefit Part A, or be a child in an approved care arrangement.

Time Frame and Benefits:

The CDBS operates on a two-year cycle, with each child receiving a capped benefit amount over this period. The benefit amount is subject to change and can confirmed by visiting the Department of Health website (https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/child-dental-benefits-schedule).

Important Information

  • The CDBS covers a range of basic dental services, including examinations, cleanings, X-rays, fillings, fissure sealants, root canals, extractions, and some types of dentures for children.
  • There are limits on the types of services and the number of services that can claimed within two years.
  • You may need to pay some additional costs depending on the specific dental services your child requires.

Conclusion

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule plays a vital role in promoting good oral health for Australian children. If your child is eligible, taking advantage of the CDBS can ensure your child receives essential dental care, laying the foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles. Talk to your dentist and explore how the CDBS can benefit your child’s oral health journey.

I had intended to leave a negative review because there were some serious communication problems and misinformation given to me by the lady on the phone which was very frustrating. BUT everything turned out ok.. I can’t fault the dentist, she was lovely, gave very thorough explanations and advice and she did a great job on my teeth.

I can't speak highly enough about Dr Shaveta and Dr Nick. They saved my back molar with root canal treatment when everybody else wanted to pull the tooth. Their staff, including Tracy, are so warm and welcoming. I have found a dentist for life! Absolutely wonderful dentists!
